To Versailles and back during lunch break? Easy!

20/07/2011

This article is not so much about new technologies, as it is about new opportunities provided by technological advancements, namely about Google Art Project.

If you don’t have a possibility to visit your favorite museum, say the Palace of Versailles or Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, you can virtually “walk around” its halls with Street View technology.

Street View function was first introduced back in 2007 as a part of Google Maps and Google Earth services and now it allows people from all around the globe to visit world’s most acclaimed museums and enjoy some of the greatest artworks exhibited there. Over a thousand selected pieces can be viewed at a high resolution with the Artwork View function, and you can even create your own collections of favorite works and share them with your friends.

This piece was inspired by a virtual tour to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. All in all, if you have a fast internet connection and a burning desire to immerse yourself in the world of art, go see the project yourself at: http://www.googleartproject.com/
