In-shoe system – magic of science

19/12/2011

Scientists, engineers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Tom Krupenkin and and J. Ashley Taylor came up with an interesting solution on how to transform the energy generated during walking into electricity. Their energy harvesting technology called “in-shoe system” is based on a process known as “reverse electrowetting”during which the energy is converted via a microfluidic device.

This unusual hermetically sealed battery is simply built into the shoes soles, and has a potential to accumulate up to 20 watts of electricity. With this invention you don’t need to worry about not being able to charge your handheld device - a mobile phone or player, because you’ll be able to do it on the go. Moreover, the system can simultaneously serve as a mobile WiFi hotspot.

Considering how people use their devices almost non-stop with the development of social networking, this can be a very useful solution.
